What experience do you have working with teachers, kids, students, schools?
From as far back as I can remember, I have really enjoyed working with kids. I have been babysitting since I was 12 years old and remember helping the kids with their homework–it was much easier for me back then because I was only a few grades ahead of them, so everything was fresh in my mind!
I graduated from college with a degree in Hospitality Management, and wouldn’t you know that my first job post-graduation was working with students! I was working as a Group Sales Manager, which put me in charge of ALL of the elementary school, girl scout, and boy scout groups we had staying at our hotel. I had to organize their schedules daily–this included coordinating their excursions, their meals, and their history lessons/recaps for the day.
I’ve also worked as a substitute teacher and most recently had a job with a non-profit in Norfolk. This is where I had the most experience with schools, teachers, and students–we worked with grades K-12, so we were constantly trying to figure out the best ways to keep the students engaged and making the material more exciting to each particular age group!
How has math affected you in your life?
As one of our AT< teacher’s always says, “Math is everywhere!” It really is. Whether you are paying your bill at a restaurant, balancing your monthly budget, or just filling your car up with gas for the week, math is in every part of your life. I am so glad that I paid attention in math class when I was younger because without those elementary building blocks, I wouldn’t be where I am today…working for this great company!
What is the best thing about working for an educational game company?
My favorite thing about working for AT< is that we are creating a new way for students to learn! I have always had so much respect for teachers because not only are they teaching and shaping the minds of our world’s youth, but they also have to keep it exciting and interesting at the same time. I think Pi & The Lost Function can really help them do that! It is such a fun way to learn about math while going on an adventure to help save the town of Greenville. Who wouldn’t want to be a hero while learning how to solve an equation?!
