What experience do you have working with teachers, kids, students, schools?
My name is Ellen Clay, and I love math! I have worked in the past with standardized testing in public schools, SAT preparation courses, homeschool instruction for various levels of math, and tutoring (1st grade to college math courses), as well as SAT, SAT Subject, ACT, and GMAT tutoring.
My students will tell you, I am constantly saying, “Math is everywhere!” It was not until college that I truly “discovered” math. When this happened, the true excitement and world of math opened up.
As a former math teacher and current math tutor, what do you hope to achieve when working with students?
My goal is to get students excited about math! They need to be encouraged and be given time to be successful. No single teaching approach works with every student, and we, as teachers, need to find what works for students individually.
What is the best thing about working for an educational game company?
The best thing about working for ATLT is the ability to reach an unlimited number of students, get students excited about math, reduce math anxiety, and be on the cutting edge of technology in and out of the classroom.
When developing materials for Pi and The Lost Function, I can combine teaching techniques in a way that students can learn and explore math, but they can also see real-world math applications. I love our guided practice feature; many of the tips and hints are from my experience as a tutor. It is wonderful knowing that the work we are doing can contribute to the prosperity of the future…our children’s future!
